The history of wine is closely connected with the development of early cultures. Wine was the drink of the gods For the Greeks Dionysus, for the Romans it was Bacchus who was lord of wine.
Persia is usually seen as the place of origin of wine. About the “invention of wine” there’s an old Persian story from the time of the ruler Dschamschid who lived in 2500 BC: It is written that a king stored his grapes in his cellar. After a while they fermented, and so wine was invented. At first people thought the grapes were invested with evil spirits but when the queen tasted of the brew out of sheer curiosity she was not only cured of her headache but also found herself in a particularly good mood. And so wine became the official drink of kings and queens.
